What happened at the Bangladesh High Commission in Agartala?

After the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, the leader of Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jot in Bangladesh, there have been various kinds of protests including deputation submissions, processions and burning effigies in the neighboring country India for the past few days.As a result of this, there was an incident of attack, vandalism and tearing of the flag at the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala on Monday.

A video from the scene obtained by BBC Bengal shows the Bangladeshi flag being lowered. In addition, the video of the burning flag of Bangladesh has spread through various media and social media.

Officials of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission told BBC Bangla that they had also seen the videos and that they were from the scene.In a statement, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Government of India has also given instructions to increase security in the Deputy and Assistant High Commissions of Bangladesh.

On the same day, protests broke out in Cooch Behar, India, and an organization called Sanatani Hindu Manch burnt an effigy of the chief adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh.

BJP leaders and activists staged a hunger strike at Petrapol port.In a statement late at night, Bangladesh’s foreign ministry said the Agartala incident was pre-planned and protesters were allowed to enter the High Commission premises.
