Women’s first-class cricket has taken to the field for the first time. Bangladesh women’s cricket team captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti has written her name in the history books by scoring a century there. She is now the only centurion in the long version of women’s cricket.
Jyoti played a brilliant innings of 153 runs for Madhya Pradesh against Uttaranchal in a three-day women’s BCL match at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Monday (December 23).
Nigar Jyoti remained unbeaten on 153 runs off 256 balls, hitting 20 fours and 2 sixes. Madhya Pradesh took a big lead with her century. Batting first, Uttaranchal declared its innings at 240 runs for 9 wickets under the bat of Sobhana Mostari. National team opener Farzana Haque Pinky played the highest innings of 86 runs off 246 balls for the team. Nahida Akhtar of Madhya Pradesh took 7 wickets for 48 runs.
In reply, Madhya Pradesh responded well with the bat with a pair of fifties by the two openers Murshida Khatun and Farzana Akhtar. After a good start by the two openers, Jyoti played a brilliant innings with a century. Madhya Pradesh declared its innings at 387 runs for 8 wickets. Jannatul Ferdous Sumana took 6 wickets for 113 runs for the Northern Region.
