The much-discussed ship ‘MV Yuan Xian Fa Zhong’ from Pakistan has arrived at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong port.

The ship arrived at the port on Sunday (December 22) at around 2:30 pm with 811 (20-foot-long) containers. Earlier, around 2 pm, the ship was seen passing the boat club in Chittagong towards the port.

Anis Ud Daula, executive director of Regency Lines Limited, a subsidiary of shipping agent Karnaphuli Limited, confirmed the matter.

He said that the ship brought 811 containers from the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan. Of this, 86 percent of the goods came from Pakistan and the remaining 14 percent from the United Arab Emirates. The ship went to Karachi with 113 containers from the United Arab Emirates. Later, it came to Chittagong with 698 more containers from Karachi. This time, the ship brought twice as many containers in less time than the first time. This has also saved the costs of the traders.

Spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Custom House Saidul Islam said that according to the IGM (Import General Manifest) declaration, the ship carried the largest amount of refined sugar. Of these, 285 containers contain 148,200 bags of sugar, weighing about 7,500 tons.

Other products include 171 containers of dolomite (raw material for glass making), 138 containers of soda ash (raw material for cement), 46 containers of cloth rolls, 18 containers of potatoes and 20 containers of sugarcane molasses.

He also said that the MV Yuan Xian Fa Zhong ship is playing a positive role in reducing business costs by delivering imported goods from the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan in a timely manner.
