The experienced all-rounder will not be able to bowl in any England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) competition until he passes a bowling action test.

Three months after questions were raised about his bowling action, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the punishment of Shakib Al Hasan. The experienced Bangladesh all-rounder will not be able to bowl in any of their tournaments until he passes the test.

This is the first time in his nearly 20-year career that Shakib has faced such a ban. The ECB announced the ban on the former Bangladesh captain from bowling in a statement on Friday.

Shakib played a match in Division One of this year’s County Championship in early September. Due to a sudden shortage of cricketers, the Surrey County team turned to the Bangladesh star cricketer for the match against Somerset. He responded to their call and went to play for the county after almost 13 years.

Shakib performed well with the ball at Taunton, Somerset. He took 9 wickets with left-arm spin in his return to the county after the 2010-11 season. However, Surrey lost the match by 111 runs.

Shakib bowled 63 overs in two innings in the match. The umpires did not call any ‘no balls’ for his overs. However, it was learned about two months later that the two umpires of that match, Steve O’Shaughnessy and David Milnes, had expressed doubts about Shakib’s bowling action at that time.

After returning from playing county, Shakib also played two Tests in India in the Bangladesh jersey. After that, he has been playing in various franchise tournaments. He is currently in Sri Lanka, playing the Lanka T-10 tournament there.
