Inflation eased slightly in December but remained above 10 percent, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) said. According to the agency, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell to 10.89 percent in December, from 11.38 percent in November.
Sources say that the increase in the supply of winter vegetables in the market has kept food prices stable, which has reduced inflation. According to BBS data, food inflation in December fell to 12.92 percent, from 13.80 percent in November. In addition, non-food inflation fell to 9.26 percent, from 9.39 percent in the previous month.
Despite various steps taken by the government to reduce high inflation, Bangladesh has been struggling with inflation for more than two years. According to Bangladesh Bank data, the annual average inflation rose to 10.22 percent in November, from 10.05 percent a month ago.
