Reversal News Desk,
The Champions Trophy, known as the ‘mini World Cup’, will begin on February 19. The eight competing teams will have to submit their squads for the tournament to the ICC by January 12. Before that, one of the superpowers of cricket, Australia, is in trouble. They are in doubt about getting World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins.
Australia won the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar series under the leadership of Cummins. Cummins suffered an ankle injury during the series. Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed his injury on Thursday (January 9). However, the severity of the injury will only be confirmed after scans. At the same time, Cummins will not play in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka due to paternity leave.
Australia’s chief selector George Bailey could not guarantee his recovery before the Champions Trophy. He said, “We are waiting, let’s see what his scan report comes out and we are monitoring it. There is some work to be done here (on the injury). We need to get some more information around that.”
Under Cummins’ captaincy, Australia won the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2021-23 World Test Championship. Cummins also won the last series of the traditional Ashes and the Border-Gavaskar series after a long time.
The Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19, will continue until March 9. The matches of this 8-team mega event will be held in three venues in Pakistan – Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. India’s match will be held in Dubai. Australia will play their first match against England on February 22. Their other two partners in Group ‘B’ are South Africa and Afghanistan. In addition, Group ‘A’ includes Bangladesh – India, Pakistan and New Zealand.
