Reversal News Desk,
Various allegations are being made against British MP Tulip Siddique, daughter of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana. She came under a lot of pressure in the UK’s domestic politics after information emerged that she received a free flat from an Awami League associate during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure.
Many in the UK government are criticizing this. There have been demands for her resignation from various quarters. Discussions about the oppression of the Awami League, the political party led by Tulip’s aunt Sheikh Hasina, have also reached Downing Street. Widespread questions have been raised about Tulip’s links with that party and the acquisition of multiple properties using that relationship. Especially since he is currently responsible for stopping corruption in the country’s financial sector, the discussion has taken on a different dimension.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is known to be quite strict in administrative policy-making. But he is still silent on the issue of Tulip’s flat. It can be said that he still trusts Tulip. But why? The reason for this was reported by the British media The Telegraph.
Tulip Siddique has been living in the UK for a long time. She is a member of the Labour Party in the country’s parliament and is currently the Economic Secretary of the UK Ministry of Finance. In this position, she is responsible for stopping corruption in the country’s financial sector. However, her name has recently been implicated along with other family members in a corruption investigation in Bangladesh.
The Telegraph published a photo of Tulip Siddique with Keir Starmer. It is said that the woman seen with a wide smile on her face with the newly elected Prime Minister and his wife is Tulip Siddique. Tulip looks so radiant when she is next to Keir Starmer. The photo was framed in a selfie taken by someone during the election victory celebration at Camden Town Hall in north London on the morning of July 5 last year. The photo captured the moment of joy of the three after the Labour Party came to power.
This photo is important for one reason. Although it seems like a simple victory celebration, the language of the photo indicates a long friendship between Sir Keir Starmer and Tulip.
Meanwhile, the trial of Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India during the student uprising, has begun. In this situation, Tulip’s financial corruption associated with her is a big issue in the UK.
In this regard, Chris Philip, the Shadow Home Secretary of the UK Parliament and the leader of the Conservative Party, said that it is time for Tulip Siddique to explain the source of her wealth. Tulip must also explain whether any of this wealth came from the corruption allegations against Aunt Hasina.
Despite the claims of various parties, Kier has stood by Tulip. While searching for the reason for this, it has been revealed that there is a long relationship between them. Kier is loyal to some of his close personal political friends. Tulip is said to be one of those parties.
The political bond of the pair began in 2014. At that time, Tulip had already been elected as a Labour candidate in Hampstead and Kilburn. On the other hand, Sir Kier was fighting for victory in neighboring Holborn and St. Pancras. Tulip stood by Kier at that time.
They entered parliament together on the same night in the 2015 election. Despite supporting different candidates later that year, both sat on the front bench under Jeremy Corbyn.
When the time came to elect the party’s top job in early 2020, Tulip was one of the first Labour MPs to publicly nominate Sir Keir as leader. His candidacy was even supported by the Labour Friends of Bangladesh, a group that played a significant role in increasing the party’s pressure. It is clear that the group supported Keir because of its relationship with Tulip.
Tulip has repeatedly spoken in the press about being a friend to Starmer. He has also publicly commented on his role in this victory.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke at a press conference about Tulip’s corruption. He said that he had confidence in Tulip.
Incidentally, two more flats have been found in the possession of Tulip Siddique. The first flat was acquired by him from a Bangladeshi businessman. The UK-based media outlet Financial Times reported that the businessman has contacts with people close to ousted Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh.
According to the report, a property businessman named Abdul Motalif gave a flat to Tulip Siddique, a minister of the country’s ruling Labour Party, in the UK capital, London. However, Tulip Siddique did not have to pay anything in exchange for the flat. Information about the free transfer of the flat has emerged in UK land registry documents.
UK land registry documents say that the free flat is located near the Kings Cross area of London. The flat was given to Tulip in 2004.
The second flat in question was where Tulip lived. It was obtained from her aunt, former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. However, this flat was not given to Tulip directly. It was given to her sister Azmina Siddique Rupanti as a gift by a Bangladeshi lawyer named Moin Ghani. He is known to be a member of Hasina’s government.
According to the Sunday Times, Moin Ghani is a Bangladeshi lawyer who has represented Hasina’s government. There is a photo of him with the former prime minister. He transferred the Hampstead flat to Azmina in 2009. Land registry documents state that the flat was transferred to Azmina without any monetary value. Azmina was 18 at the time and was about to start her studies at Oxford University.
Tulip Siddique has listed the Hampstead flat as her residence in several official documents.
Even after she was appointed as the director of the Working Men’s College educational institution in December 2012, she listed the flat as her address in the company’s documents. The Telegraph published news about this.
